Celebrating answered prayers
Good morning brethren, I would like to share a brief exhortation on the topic “Celebrating answered prayers.” Our anchor Scripture is Psalm 116:1–2 “I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.” Prayer is one of God’s greatest gifts to believers. It is the means by which we communicate with Him, present our needs, express our gratitude, and seek His will. However, it is equally important to celebrate and acknowledge God’s answers to our prayers. Celebrating answered prayers is an act of gratitude that strengthens our faith, glorifies God, and reminds us of His unfailing faithfulness. Unfortunately, it is human nature to move quickly from one request to the next without taking time to thank God for what He has already done. Sadly, this tendency is often seen even among believers.
The Bible reminds us in Psalm 103:2 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits. This teaches us to remember God’s goodness and continually give Him praise. Likewise, Psalm 105:1–5 says “Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples… Remember His marvelous works which He has done.” What does it mean to celebrate answered Prayers? Celebrating answered prayers means intentionally recognising, appreciating, and giving thanks to God for His faithfulness in responding to our petitions. It is acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from God, as James 1:17 reminds us. Some reason we celebrate answered Prayers includes; answered prayer is evidence of God’s power, mercy, and faithfulness. Hence it gives glory to God and our response should be worship and thanksgiving (Psalms 50:15). It strengthens our faith, Lamentations 3:22–23 says “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed… Great is Your faithfulness.” As we remember God’s past faithfulness it gives us confidence to trust Him for future needs as each testimony becomes a reminder that if God did it before, He is able to do it again. It also helps encourages other brethren or people, our testimonies can inspire someone who is waiting for God to answer their prayers. Revelation 12:11 says “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Therefore ministers should encourage sharing testimonies as it helps builds faith within the body of Christ. Expressing our gratitude for answered prayers in thanksgiving, opens the door for greater blessings. The biblical story in Luke 17:11–19 of the ten lepers healed is an example, only one returned to thank Jesus. Jesus commended the grateful one and declared him whole. In this story we understand that gratitude positions someone for more of God’s blessings. Let us see some practical biblical examples of celebrating answered prayers; the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:9–20; 1 Samuel 2:1–10 stands out, she prayed earnestly for a son. When God answered, she returned to worship and offered a heartfelt song of praise. She also fulfilled her vow by dedicating Samuel to the Lord. It is our responsibility to encourage believers to return to God with thanksgiving after receiving their miracle. In Acts 12:5–17, The Early church prayed fervently for Peter’s release when he was arrested. When God answered, there was great joy and amazement. God’s answers to our prayers should produce celebration and renewed faith. Some few practical ways to celebrating answered prayers: worship God with songs of praise (Psalm 100:4), always share your testimony to encourage others (Psalm 66:16), practice giving generously in appreciation for God’s goodness (2 Corinthians 9:11), live a life of obedience and faithfulness to God (John 14:15) and keep records of answered prayers to remember God’s faithfulness. Some of the benefits of celebrating answered prayers include - it deepens our relationships with God, it builds stronger faith and of course encourages other believers, it helps cultivate a grateful heart and brings joy and peace and it glorifies God before other people. Let us conclude with Philippians 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” God delights in hearing and answering our prayers. Every answer—whether immediate, delayed, or different from our expectations—reveals His wisdom, His love, and His perfect timing.
Therefore, as believers, we should never take God’s blessings for granted. Gratitude distinguishes those who truly appreciate God’s goodness. Let thanksgiving become a lifestyle. Celebrate God’s intervention with gratitude, share your testimony, and let every answered prayer become another reason to worship Him. As today is our thanksgiving Service, my prayer is that we will not only hear this message but also put it into practice as we gather to worship and give thanks to our faithful God.
